It feels like on continuous map and not a bunch of areas connected by corridors. This stuff doesn't reset every time you open a quest. You can set up your camp everywhere you want, place equipment that helps you locate,

The map traversal is tons of fun and honestly shits on World/Rise in any way.

Personally I liked what I played of Wild Hearts more than Toukiden, though not a huge fan of building. It would be like Capcom making a hunting game, but all new weapons, monsters are mythological, a class system, and every weapon and class getting supermoves that built up, it's not Monster Hunter, there's similarities, but calling it Monster Hunter would draw comparison to the earlier work, for good or bad. Wild Hearts has 3 man hunts, you have your weapon, potions, food for buffs, and you can build obstacles. Gameplay wise Toukiden is 4 man hunts, even solo since you got 3 npcs, you get magic abilities, the claw, and the part breaker super. Wild Hearts is about nature spirits rampaging, and your hunter being the guy skilled enough to fight. Toukiden is about demons going nuts and decimating the world, with your village being a small holdout protected by magic, and spirits of ancient warriors give you the magic necessary to fight them. It's completely different, both gammeplay and storywise.
